New York State Crossbow Update and ?
Governor Patterson signed into law the bill allowing crossbow hunting in NYS but it appears that the dec will not have anything ready until 2011 at the earliest. New regulations take time.
With the fall season upon us bow season will be opening soon. Brings back memory's of my bow hunting days with a recurve bow. Not to good of memory's as far as having a good hunt. Spent a lot of time waiting .It seemed that it took even more cunning on the part of the hunter to get or be in a good postion to make a shot . Holding a 50#? bow was a trial in its self. Also the custom made arrows Fresh out of the box with brand new broadheads.Made just for your draw length.
Practice would take its toll on the new arrows.But even without the great success of the hunt it will always be a great time in my life.Another recurve adventure carp in canal in Newark, New York .To try and shoot carb is a visual game between your eyes and the water. The fish is not always where it seems. Believe me when I say it took a few arrows to learn.The arrow was attached to the bow with a open faced round drum type reel with fly line to secure the arrow.and allow retrieval of the arrow. This was a time when the canning factory was running in Newark,New york.The canal served for a path of alot of excess corn and peas floating on the surface of the water. This made the carp ripe for the picking.Another good time in life. Good times in life come all the time and most people don't realize it . As you get older you seem to forget to have good times in life. Savor life before its done.

Would you have shot him?
Here's a story you would have to live to decide what you would do.

A Rochester man accused of shooting another city man in the abdomen last night during a road-rage incident pleaded not guilty in City Court today.
Craig S. Hasman, 50, of Lake Avenue was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, according to City Court records.
The arrest followed an incident that involved two vehicles — a motorcycle and a minivan — that were both southbound on Lake when the motorcyclist and the driver of the minivan started arguing near Driving Park Avenue, said Rochester Police Officer Stephen Scott.
When both vehicles stopped at a red light at Lyell Avenue about 9 p.m., Scott said, passenger Michael Lee, 30, of Rochester got out of the minivan and approached the motorcyclist, Hasman, and punched him in the head, knocking him off the cycle.
Hasman is accused of retrieving his legally registered handgun and shooting Lee once in the abdomen.
Lee was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he had surgery last night, officers said. He was listed in satisfactory condition today, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
According to the passenger on the motorcycle and the minivan’s driver — neither of whom were involved in the physical fight — Lee and Hasman were fighting about tailgating.
“It appears to be an incident of aggressive driving,” Scott said. The minivan was following the motorcycle on Lake Avenue and the involved men were yelling at each other from their respective vehicles, he said.
Teresa Mancuso, the passenger on Hasman’s motorcycle, told police that the minivan was tailgating the motorcycle before the altercation, according to City Court documents. The driver of the minivan, Johndale Hartzog, claimed the motorcyclist accused him of tailgating and threatened him and Lee while both vehicles were still traveling south on Lake.
Scott said officers did not believe Lee and Hasman knew one another.
Hasman today was remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court to appear with an attorney at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
Officers continue to investigate the incident. Scott said the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office would need to determine whether either man in the van would face charges. From Rochester,NY D&C
I probably would have done to same thing. My wife and I also ride motorcycle. Anytime you have a large vehicle playing games to close it gets very unnerving. To assault someone as the motorcycle rider was assaulted and not be able to defend your self is wrong.It appears that there is no charges placed against the road rage driver and passenger.How assaulted must you be to defend yourself with you legal handgun?
Road rage,Punching ,knocking bike over must not be enough. I'm Sure that Mr. Hasman felt that his life was in danger at the time of shooting the attacker.If you feel your life is in danger or someone else your must have the right to defend yourself and the other person. That is the main reason to you carry your weapons. To defend yourself. Who draws the line in the sand to decide to use deadly force or be hurt or killed.
most people never have to decide this. I feel Mr. Hasman did what any other gun owner would have done in this situation. Defend himself from personal harm or death.
One can only hope that the people (court system) see it as it truly is; self defense and nothing more.
We as gun owners have to support the right to defend ourselves. With the crime that happens in the city of Rochester it's no wonder this type of thing does not happen more. I support the actions of Mr.Hasman 100%.
Best of luck in getting over this mountain.I only hope that I never have to make this kind of choice.The thing is when guns are involved, lives can be changed forever in a blink of an eye.

Pistol permits are a very fragile thing these days. They are ever increasingly harder to obtain.The counties set there own rules on how long you wait.What the guidelines are to get a permit in your county.Wayne county has a new sheriff this means we have a new issuing officer for our permits. New guide lines and staff to process our permit applications. But in Wayne County You can have no problems to stop issue of your permit but you still wait months to hear.Checking the mail daily hoping to hear yes or no. We have a new card permit system here. How this effects the process is yet to be seen. It will make purchases of handguns easier for people that already have permits. But I am sure it will not change the issuance of new permits. Our county is slowing down issuing concealed carry permits. Making it even harder to get CC permits anymore.Because remember New York CC Means you must conceal your weapon.So if you have your permit Protect your right to keep it.

DON'T fall in love with the first gun you see. Because there are some very nice pistols on the market today. Almost all makers make compact and sub compact hand guns. Do you want a semi-auto or revolver . Taurus, Smith and Wesson,Charter Arms all make small frame revolvers that are hammerless, this means the hammer is not exposed .The hammerless styles are good for pocket or purse carry mainly because the hammer or lack of will not get hung up on the way out when needed. If you ever have to use your weapon you need to get it out of where ever you decide to put it. My wife likes to carry a S&W air weight 38spl. We got her a revolver because of her not liking to carry a semi auto with a round in the chamber and being hammerless. But this is the purpose of having a carry gun is to have the gun loaded for use. In a time of need what are you going to do with a gun with no round in the chamber ? "Wait a minute while a chamber a round" I don,t think so.
I do not mind carrying my guns loaded in my pocket. I like the kel-tec sub compact models we have a .380 and .32acp .The .32 is my wifes. She does carry it loaded now .Ruger,Berretta,Kel-tec,Glock,Magunm Research and others make sub compact semi-auto pistols . They come in cal. 22lr-40sw and maybe .45 acp in a slightly larger frame but still fits in your pocket. When you carry any gun in your pocket daily I recommend a soft pocket holster to protect you pistol. I have aa AMT Backup semi auto that fits well in my back pocket.Sub-compact means that unloaded they weigh approx. 8-15 oz. are fit very well in your pocket. Compacts frame is slightly larger and does fit in your pocket You need to ask where am I going to carry my gun?Holster,shoulder holster,purse,pocket.With all these different types of options,you have a different need in a firearm. Sig Sauer Makes several models in the higher end semi-auto pistols,Along with other makers.
The most important thing is that the gun fits you. If you are going to carry every day The pistol can not get in your way or be uncomfortable to wear. That's the key to the right choice in personal protection hand guns. Think about what it weighs ,wear it fits on your body and is going to get in your way.
In the end its up to you .You have the right to bear arms .

What does concealed carry mean in New York ?
Does it mean that your weapon must be concealed ?
Having a concealed carry permit in new york means that you must carry it concealed.
New York Penal Law says you can be arrested for menacing for placing a person in fear of his life. By carrying your weapon openly.
Open Carry:
Prohibited in all public areas.
You can see that in today's times that having a gun on your hip would be distressing to some people.I think that a lot of the people who don't understand how much you have to do to get a pistol permit in New York State, would be upset that you have a gun and they don't.But on the other hand if more people carried their gun on their hip criminals would think twice about what they were going to do.

The Federal process has gotten more strict as to who can be issued a federal Firearms license. You must now have a place of business to sell your firearms. Meet all local code and zoning laws. Have retail sales certificate.And have a NYS Gun Dealers License.The dealers License is issued by the county.Sheriffs Office.The process is much the same as a pistol fingerprints,photos and more money. The same Pay and wait Game.The process has seemed to slowed down in our county. If it is a real issue or just not wanting more guns on the street. Legal guns very seldom are used for crime unless it was stolen. We as gun owners need to always need to remember that it is our right to own guns.And sell them within the laws. New York also gives wide latitude to the county authorities in issuing permits. That is a very good thing for us, I would not want someone in Albany to decide if I could own a hand gun. That would even take longer.
In our age of instant everything you would think that it would not take Months to Issue permits. I know you need to do a very good check on the person, but that must take a long time? Or your application is laying on the desk of someone in the Mental Health Department or on the desk of the issuing officer.
The Cobis program in NYS has not caught 1 criminal. The main thing it does is catalog every new handgun that enters the state before it is sold. This starts the paper trail of your handgun. And every time your gun is sold it is recorded in the data base by the State Police. You must be sure the gun you sold gets taken off your permit. You are responsible for this you need to file an ammendment at the County Clerks or the issuing office in your county.

Applications for licenses must be acted upon within 6 months after presentment. If there is a delay, there must be written notice to the applicant stating the reasons.
Automobile carry:
A loaded handgun may be carried in a vehicle by a properly licensed individual. (Loaded means a firearm with ammunition loaded in magazine or chamber or any firearm which is possessed by one who at the same time possesses a quantity of ammunition which may be used to discharge such a firearm.) Possession of any loaded rifle or shotgun in a vehicle is illegal.
It is unlawful for any person to carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license.
Places off-limits when carrying:
It is a crime to possess any rifle, shotgun or handgun in or upon a building or grounds, used for educational purposes, of any school, college or university. It is lawful, however, to possess a rifle, shotgun or handgun in or upon the forestry lands, wherever located, owned and maintained by the State University of New York College of environmental science and forestry, without the written authorization of such educational institution.
Is pepper spray legal in New York?
New York: New York residents may only purchase defense sprays from licensed Firearms Dealers or licensed Pharmacists in that state.
