NY DEER HUNTING-WHEN DOING THE RIGHT THING COSTS YOU.

Today I was at a friends house and the subject turned to this years deer hunting experiences. My friend Mike Bush of Lyons,NY was describing his trip to the Lyons  Town court today and the paying of a $175.00 Fine. It seems that last week he and Bill Durham were hunting as always at a freinds house in north Lyons .Another friend that is with them shoots a deer and wounds it. It is now appox.4:00 pm the season ends at sunset about 35-45 minutes away. Mike and the friend set off to track the wounded deer. Mike is the one with the waders they are heading into very wet woodlands to retrieve the gravely wounded deer. They find the deer and when they get to it, it is still alive, but almost dead. But also it is past the sunset ending time of the hunting day.To me this is a no brainer you need to do the right and humane thing end this ordeal . So Mike does the right thing and kills the deer.
But in the eyes of the dec it is the wrong thing to do. Mike was issued a ticket for taking a deer after hours. $175.00 Fine For doing the right thing.
This group of deer hunters hunt for the hunt and the spoils of the hunt ,not to break the law. The  DEC Officer said they should have called a Law enforcement to distroy the deer. But told Mike he would not go in the wet woods to do it.
Be careful when you do the right thing it may cost you.
It should not be wrong to do the right thing. If they were hunting after hours and poaching that would be a different story wouldn't it?
I'm Asking the hunters what would you do?
Side note : Mike Bush is a retired law enforcement officer who was wounded in the line of duty.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT .
BE SAFE
See you in the gun shop.
